It became unavoidably pertinent I addressed the above subject to correct an already growing misinformation as well as bring the teeming Imo State University students up to speed with the actual situation of things as regards the school resumption date.

The truth is:

1. As at today being Saturday 3rd October, 2020 the university management, I confirmed, is yet to be cleared by the Nigeria Universities Commission (NUC) for having met the required covid-19 guidelines for safe reopening of universities and as such cannot reopen for academic activities until it has receipt of the NUC clearance letter.

2. In the light of the above fact, IMSU cannot come up with a date for resumption of academic activities until the above procedures has been satisfied.

3. There is therefore no DATE for resumption of academic activities for the 2020/2021 academic session. IMSU has not fixed nor released any resumption date.

4. When eventually IMSU gets the required NUC clearance letter to fix a date for and consequently resume academic activities this October it does not in any way connote that lectures will re-commence.

This is because the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is yet to call-off her strike - a strike you'd recall IMSU ASUU chapter joined on the 11th of March. Unless IMSU ASUU chapter decides to pull-out of ASUU strike, academic activities like lecturing will not re-commence even if a resumption date is made public.

The misinformation:

1. I have received several calls, messages and so forth about a memo or release that has recently being in circulation in which I allegedly signed stating that IMSU will resume academic activities on the 28th of October. It is FALSE and a big MISREPRESENTATION of facts.

2. It is FALSE because I never signed any public release or memo stating that IMSU resumes academic activities for the 2020/2021 session on the 28th of October, 2020 and it is a big MISREPRESENTATION of facts in that the said memo in actuality is one I released before the kick-off of the last academic session, which is the 2019/2020 academic session, that is now largely used by purveyors of misinformation whose stock-in-trade and joy is to deceive the unsuspecting IMSU publics and consequently causing information panic and chaos among Imo Stars.

Disregard it.
